Research interests and expertise:

Simulations and integral equations theory of charged soft condensed matter systems including electrolytes, molten salts, macroions and biopolymers (such as DNA) in bulk aqueous solutions and/or next to a charged colloidal particle or electrode. In my group, we are interested in equilibrium and non-equilibrium properties of the electrical double layer such as the so-called capacitive compactness, the differential capacity, the electrostatic potential, the electric field, and phenomena produced by ion correlations and ionic excluded volume effects such as charge inversion, charge reversal, surface charge amplification, etc. Other topics include image charges o polarization effects near nanoparticles, colloids or oil/water interfaces in the presence of dielectric mismatch; effective potentials among macroions; high-performance parallel computing using CPUs and GPUs; and Monte Carlo and molecular and/or brownian dynamics of charged liquids.

Bio:

Dr. Ivan Guerrero obtained a BSc degree on Physics at the University of Veracruz (Faculty of Physics) in Mexico, from which he graduated in 2000 with honors (9.98/10.0). Afterwards, he performed an MSc and a PhD at the Institute of Physics of the University of San Luis Potosi in Mexico, graduating in 2002 and 2006, respectively. Next, Ivan worked at the Mexican Institute of Petroleum as a Postdoctoral Researcher during 2007-2008. Then, he joined the group of Monica Olvera de la Cruz at Northwestern University as Postdoctoral Researcher in 2009, being promoted to Research Associate in 2013. In 2014, Ivan was appointed as a National Council of Science and Technology Research Fellow (Catedratico CONACYT) at the Institute of Physics of the University of San Luis Potosi. This position is analogous in spirit to a Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) Researcher position in France. In 2020, and as result of an open and public opposition contest, Ivan obtained a tenure-track position at the University of San Luis Potosi, which has been recognized in several years as one of the 10 best universities in Mexico according to the Times Higher Education ranking. In 2022, Ivan became Full Professor of Physics and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program on Physics, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of San Luis Potosi.
